Berlin Events in September 2026: Art Week, POSITIONS & More

By Berlin ArtWalk · Updated 2026-08-31 · Berlin · Events · Berlin Art Week · September 2026

Berlin's art calendar peaks in the next four weeks: as of 31 August 2026 the Berlin ArtWalk live feed tracks 350+ events and 215+ galleries and museums, refreshed nightly. The headline is Berlin Art Week (9–13 September), its 15th edition, running alongside the POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair and the 40th Fantasy Filmfest — but two exhibitions close before any of that starts, and a citywide industrial-heritage festival and a street-food weekend fill the gaps around it.

Last chance — closing before Berlin Art Week

Two shows come down in the first two weeks of September. Walter Schels' '16° Fische' retrospective at C/O Berlin closes 2 September — large-format black-and-white portraits of Baltic Sea fish, shown alongside 'The Lure of the Image'. The Kyiv Biennial's 'A Bird That Cannot Land' at KW Institute for Contemporary Art runs until 13 September (€10) — worth catching before Art Week's own programme crowds the calendar.

Berlin Art Week: 9–13 September, the 15th edition

Berlin Art Week's five days bring museum and gallery openings across the city, with two set-piece evenings: Gallery Night on 10 September (6–10 pm, around 50 participating galleries) and Featured Night on 11 September (6–10 pm), when off-spaces, project rooms and artist-run initiatives take over. Most Gallery Night venues don't charge admission.

POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair: 96 galleries in a Tempelhof hangar

Running 10–13 September inside Hangar 5-6 at the old Tempelhof Airport, the fair's 13th edition brings 96 galleries from 20 countries under one roof — last year it drew more than 30,000 visitors. Tickets are €25 regular, €15 reduced, free for under-18s.

Fantasy Filmfest turns 40

Germany's biggest genre-film festival marks its 40th edition at Zoo Palast, 2–9 September, with thrillers, horror and sci-fi from Japan, Korea, Norway and beyond, many screening as German premieres in their original language with subtitles. Individual tickets run around €12.

Free-ish and citywide: industrial heritage and street food

  • Festival der Berliner Industriekultur — 12 September to 4 October, 100+ events across former factories, power plants and rail yards; many are free, ticketed tours and workshops run roughly €2–79.
  • Berlin Street Food Festival — Top Bites of the World, 26 September at Maaya Berlin (RAW-Gelände); €3.90 online, €6 at the gate.
  • Giant Kite Festival — 12 September, Tempelhofer Feld, free; see our late-August roundup for the full write-up.

Where street art fits in

Urban Nation, Berlin's dedicated street-art museum on Bülowstraße, keeps its 'Love Letters to the City' exhibition on with free admission — an easy stop between Art Week venues in Schöneberg. For a guided route, the app's bookable Berlin street-art and graffiti walking tours run daily from €20, or walk it yourself with our urban art guide.
