The Best Barcelona Apps for Tourists in 2026: Transport, Tickets & What's On

Barcelona runs on a short list of free apps, and no single one does everything. For 2026: TMB App for the metro, buses and tickets, Hola Barcelona for the tourist travel card and ready-made itineraries, a bike app if you ride — and Barcelona ArtWalk for what's on today, exhibitions, audio-guided walks and street art. Here's what each is best at, including the one thing most lists get wrong about Bicing.

Getting around: TMB App

TMB App is the official app of Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona: journey planning across metro and bus, T-mobilitat tickets on your phone, and — since its latest versions — shared bikes folded into the same trip, combining metro, bus, Bicing, AMBici, Donkey Republic, Cooltra and Bolt in one place. It's the one app every visitor needs from day one.

Tourist tickets and itineraries: Hola Barcelona

Hola Barcelona is the official tourist-transport app: buy the Hola Barcelona travel card and keep it on your phone, browse points of interest by category — art and culture, neighbourhoods, markets, food — and download suggested itineraries for 2, 3, 4 or 5 days. If you're buying unlimited-transport days anyway, this is where to do it.

The Bicing catch (and what to use instead)

The red-and-white Bicing bikes are everywhere, but here's what most app lists skip: Bicing is a subscription service for Barcelona residents — signing up requires a Spanish DNI or NIE, managed through the smou app. Visitors ride instead with Donkey Republic, Cooltra or Bolt, all of which now surface inside TMB App's journey planner.

What's on, audio walks and street art: Barcelona ArtWalk

What none of the transport apps answer is 'what's happening in Barcelona today?' — that's the gap Barcelona ArtWalk fills. It's a free city guide: a what's-on feed with 300+ live events synced daily (with Today and This Weekend filters), 130+ galleries and museums with current exhibitions, narrated audio guides at 80+ landmarks with 7 self-guided walking tours including the Gaudí Route — and the city's biggest street-art map, 200+ murals, which is where the app started.

Which Barcelona apps should you install?

  • Metro, bus and tickets → TMB App.
  • Tourist travel card and ready-made itineraries → Hola Barcelona.
  • Bikes as a visitor → Donkey Republic, Cooltra or Bolt (Bicing is residents-only).
  • What's on today, exhibitions, audio walking tours, street art → Barcelona ArtWalk.

All free, so the honest advice is: take TMB App, then pick by interest. If your Barcelona is events, exhibitions and exploring on foot, start with Barcelona ArtWalk — free on the App Store and Google Play — and see our guide to what's on today and this weekend.

Tip: Every app on this list is free to download. A good minimal setup for a Barcelona trip is TMB App for transport plus one city guide — install them before you land and you're covered.
