Privacy Policy

BULU — Effective as of 2026-07-22

This privacy policy applies to the BULU app (hereinafter referred to as the “Application”) for mobile devices, which was developed by Walid Islam (hereinafter referred to as the “Service Provider”) as an ad-supported service with an optional paid subscription. This service is provided “AS IS”.

BULU is a pet-companion app for Malaysia and Singapore: it helps you discover pet-friendly places, vets, groomers, parks and shelters, keep your pets’ profiles, health records and reminders, share a photo diary, and take part in a community feed for adoption and missing-pet posts. This page explains what personal information we collect, how it is used, and how it is shared when you use the Service.

If you choose to use the Service, then you agree to the collection and use of information in relation to this policy. The personal information we collect is used for providing and improving the Service. We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy. Terms used here have the same meaning as in our Terms of Use unless otherwise defined.

Information Collection and Use

What information does the Application obtain and how is it used?

Information you provide

Creating an account is optional, but some features require it. When you register or use the Service, you may provide:

  • Account details — your email address and password (via Firebase Authentication), or a Google / Apple sign-in, and optionally your display name and profile photo.
  • Pet information — the profiles, health records, documents and photos you add for your pets (described below).
  • Community & reviews — posts, photos, and a contact number (e.g. WhatsApp) you choose to share, and reviews you write about places.
  • Communications — messages you send us for support.

The Service Provider may use the information you provide to contact you from time to time with important information, required notices, and, where you have opted in, updates about the app.

Automatically collected information

The Application may also collect certain information automatically, including the type of mobile device you use, your device’s unique identifiers, your IP address, your mobile operating system, and information about the way you use the Application.

Does the Application collect precise real-time location?

With your permission, the Application uses your device’s location to power core features. You can decline or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings; the app then falls back to a manually chosen city.

  • Nearby & map features: To show pet-friendly places, vets, groomers, parks and shelters near you, center the map, and suggest your city during onboarding.
  • Analytics & improvements: Aggregated and anonymized usage helps us understand which features are useful and improve the app's performance.

Your Pets’ Data & Health Records

A central part of BULU is keeping your pets’ information in one place. Depending on what you choose to enter, this may include a pet’s species, breed, birthday, weight, microchip number, photos, medical and feeding notes, emergency contacts, and insurance details, as well as records you add such as vaccinations, medications, vet visits, weight entries, cost entries, uploaded documents (images or PDFs), tasks and reminders, and photo-diary entries.

This data is stored under your account on our backend (Google Firebase) so it syncs across your devices, and is used only to provide the pet-care features to you (and to household members you explicitly invite — see below). Reminders are scheduled as local notifications on your device. You can edit or delete any of this data in the app at any time.

BULU is a personal record-keeping and organisation tool. It is not a health-tracking, medical, or diagnostic app and not a medical device: the pet information you enter is stored as your own notes and is not monitored, verified, or acted on by us or by a veterinary professional. Do not rely on it for diagnosis, treatment, or emergencies — always consult a licensed veterinarian.

Place & Business Information

Listings for places, vets, groomers, parks, shops and other businesses are aggregated from publicly available data sources — Google Places, OpenStreetMap and similar providers — and from community contributions. This information may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date, and we do not independently verify or guarantee it. A listing does not imply any endorsement, partnership, or affiliation, and we are not affiliated with the businesses listed or the data providers. Always contact a place directly to confirm details such as opening hours or whether pets are allowed.

Content You Submit (Reviews, Community Posts & Photos)

If you write a review, or create a community post (adoption, missing-pet, or event), we store that content together with your account identifier and your display name so the feature can work. Community posts and reviews are public — once approved by moderation, they are visible to other users of the app, including any photos, the pet’s details, the city, and any contact number (such as a WhatsApp number) you choose to add. Missing-pet posts may include a location.

Please share only what you are comfortable making public, and do not include other people’s personal information without their consent. You can delete content you submitted in the app, or contact us to request removal. We may review, moderate, or remove submitted content.

Household Sharing

If you use household sharing, you can generate an invite code and share it with people you trust. When someone redeems your code, they become a member of your household and can view and help manage the pet profiles, records, tasks and diary entries in your household. Redeeming a code links the two accounts for this purpose. Only invite people you trust with this information; you can manage membership in the app.

Do third parties see and/or have access to information?

We may share your information with the third-party services that power the app, as described in this statement, and only to the extent needed to operate the Service. Where you create an account or submit content, this information is stored on our backend infrastructure (Google Firebase — Authentication, Cloud Firestore, and Cloud Storage) so the Service can function across your devices; it is not kept solely on your device.

The Service Provider may disclose your information:

  • as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena or similar legal process;
  • when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request;
  • with trusted service providers who work on our behalf, do not have an independent use of the information, and have agreed to adhere to the rules set out in this statement.

Push Notifications

With your permission, BULU can send push notifications — for example community approvals or announcements — through OneSignal and Firebase Cloud Messaging. This uses a device push token. Reminders for your pets’ tasks are scheduled locally on your device. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.

Crash Reporting, Diagnostics & Session Replay

To keep the Application stable, we use Sentry and Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports and performance diagnostics. When the app encounters an error, these tools may record technical data such as the device model, operating system, app version, a stack trace, and the sequence of in-app actions leading up to the error.

For a limited number of sessions in which an error occurs, Sentry may capture a session replay — a reconstruction of the on-screen interaction, used to diagnose the problem. Text you enter and media are masked by default so their content is not recorded. This data is used only to detect, diagnose, and fix problems, and is retained for a limited period.

AI-Powered Features

Some parts of the Service use Google Gemini to help our team draft notification copy and to help surface relevant pet events. These run on our side; the app does not ask you to type prompts into an AI. AI-generated content may be inaccurate and is provided for general information only — a human reviews it before anything is published.

Free Version & Premium Subscription

Free Version

Contains non-personalized (contextual) ads via Google AdMob on some discovery screens. Ads are not based on profiling of your activity.

BULU Pro (Subscription)
  • An ad-free experience
  • A monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription
  • Can also be unlocked with a valid promo or store code
Pricing and Payments
  • All prices are shown in your local currency within the app.
  • Prices may vary by region and are subject to change.
  • Payment is charged to your Apple App Store or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase, and is processed through the app store and our subscriptions provider, RevenueCat. We do not receive or store your full card details.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; you manage and cancel them in your App Store or Google Play account.

What are my opt-out rights?

You can halt all collection of information by the Application by uninstalling it, using the standard uninstall process available on your device or app marketplace. You can also delete your account and data from within the app (see below).

Log Data

Whenever you use the Service, in the case of an error we may collect data and information (through third-party products) on your device called Log Data. This may include your device IP address, device name, operating system version, the configuration of the app, the time and date of your use, and other statistics.

Security

The Service Provider is concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information, and provides physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect the information we process. All user data is encrypted in transit. Access is limited to those who need it to operate, develop, or improve the Application. Please be aware that no security system can prevent all potential breaches.

Links to Other Sites & Contact Numbers

The Service may contain links to other sites or contact numbers shared by other users (for example a WhatsApp link on a community post). These are not operated by us. We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for, the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites, services, or persons. We strongly advise you to review their policies and to exercise caution when contacting other users.

Your Privacy Rights (GDPR, Malaysia PDPA & Singapore PDPA)

The Service Provider is based in Germany and app data is stored on servers in the European Union, so the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies. The data controller is Walid Islam, contactable at snapnsolve.apps@gmail.com, postal address Wilhelminenhofstraße, 12459 Berlin, Germany. Because BULU is directed at users in Malaysia and Singapore, the Malaysian Personal Data Protection Act 2010 and the Singapore Personal Data Protection Act 2012 also apply to those users.

We rely on the following legal bases:

  • Performance of a contract — to create and operate your account, provide subscription features, and deliver the Service.
  • Consent — for location, push notifications, analytics, and advertising identifiers; you may withdraw it at any time.
  • Legitimate interests — to keep the Service secure, prevent fraud and abuse, diagnose crashes, and improve features.
  • Legal obligation — where we must retain or disclose data to comply with the law.

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you, and obtain a copy;
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • Delete your data (“right to be forgotten”);
  • Restrict or object to certain processing, including direct marketing;
  • Data portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format;
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at snapnsolve.apps@gmail.com. We will respond within a reasonable time. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data-protection supervisory authority — in Germany, the lead authority for the Service Provider is the Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit; in Malaysia you can also contact the Personal Data Protection Department (JPDP), and in Singapore the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC).

International Data Transfers

BULU stores primary app data in the European Union. Some of our service providers — including Google/Firebase, Sentry, RevenueCat, OneSignal, and Google AdMob — may process data on servers located outside your country, including in the European Economic Area and the United States. Where that happens, the transfer is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or an applicable adequacy decision.

Children’s Privacy

The Service Provider does not use the Application to knowingly solicit data from, or market to, children under the age of 13. In the EU/EEA, the minimum age for consenting to the processing of personal data is 16 (or the lower age set by your country). If you are under this age, please use the Application only with the involvement and consent of a parent or guardian.

If we discover that a child under 13 has provided personal information, we will delete it from our servers. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at snapnsolve.apps@gmail.com so we can take the necessary action.

Data Retention, Account & Data Deletion

We retain the data you provide for as long as you use the Application and for a reasonable time thereafter. Automatically collected information may be retained for up to 24 months and thereafter stored in aggregate.

Account Deletion: You can delete your account and its data using the “Delete Account” option in the app’s settings, or by emailing us. Deleting your account removes your pet data, records, and diary; public community posts and reviews may be removed on request.

Data deletion without closing your account: To request deletion of specific data without closing your account, email us at snapnsolve.apps@gmail.com.

Disclaimer

The App is provided “as is” without warranties. We are not responsible for:

  • Health, medical, or veterinary decisions — the app is not a substitute for professional veterinary advice, diagnosis, or treatment;
  • Inaccurate place, vet, or opening-hours details retrieved from Google, OpenStreetMap, or other third-party data sources;
  • Content or contact details posted by other users in the community feed;
  • Unavailability or malfunctioning of app features due to device, network, or system limitations.
