Barcelona's art calendar peaks in September: as of 24 August 2026 the Barcelona ArtWalk app tracks 360+ live events and 530+ galleries and exhibitions across the city. The next four weeks bring the city's biggest art weekend, a neighbourhood festa, two exhibitions in their final days, and a run of concerts big enough to fill Palau Sant Jordi four nights running. Here's what's worth planning around.
Barcelona Gallery Weekend: the season's biggest art moment (17–20 September)
For four days, 25 contemporary and modern art galleries across Barcelona and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat open new shows by more than 50 artists, alongside free guided routes, talks and studio visits from Barcelona Gallery Weekend — the closest the city's gallery circuit gets to one walkable event. The closing day overlaps with ARCO GalleryWalks: L'Hospitalet on 20 September, a guided walk through the Hospitalet gallery cluster.
Last chance: two shows closing before autumn
- ICONS, Steve McCurry — around 150 photographs from four decades of the photojournalist's career, including work from India, Afghanistan and Japan, at Palau Martorell. Closes 6 September; tickets from €16.
- Ouka Leele: Barcelona 1978–1980 — previously unseen negatives from the hand-painted-photography pioneer and Movida madrileña icon's years in the city, at RocioSantaCruz gallery. Closes 9 September.
Free this month: Festa Major d'Horta (5–14 September)
Ten days of neighbourhood celebration fill Horta's streets and squares — correfocs, concerts and the long-running Fira Popular d'Artesania craft fair, where artisans work in the open air. It's free, and it carries the same spirit of hand-decorated streets that made Gràcia's and Sants' festas the summer's best free art shows — Horta closes out the run before autumn.
Big nights: concerts worth planning around
- The Weeknd — After Hours Til Dawn tour, Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, 1 September. Sold out; resale only.
- Aitana — Cuarto Azul tour, four nights (4, 5, 7 and 8 September) at Palau Sant Jordi, an unusually long residency for one arena.
- Sigur Rós — The Orchestral Tour with the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès, Auditori Fòrum CCIB, 11 September. Tickets from around €121, on what the band has billed as one of its final European dates.
- Cirque du Soleil: Kurios — Under the Big Top, L'Hospitalet, 3 September to 12 October. Tickets from €49.
- Rock The Sun Festival — a hard rock and sleaze weekend at Poble Espanyol, 18–19 September. Tickets from €55.
- Mac DeMarco — Sala Razzmatazz, 16 September, the same night Gallery Weekend's previews open.
On screen: Korean Film Festival Barcelona (2–6 September)
A Park Chan-wook retrospective anchors the sixth edition at Cinemes Girona, alongside premieres, horror and independent Korean cinema. Individual tickets run €7–8 per film.
Street art keeps its own rhythm through the festival season — Poblenou's factory murals and the legal walls at Jardins de les Tres Xemeneies turn over most weekends, and the app's bookable street-art tours are still running.
