Barcelona Events in September 2026: La Mercè, BAM & Terra i Gust

As of 21 September 2026 the Barcelona ArtWalk app tracks 379 live events and 671 galleries and exhibitions across the city — and this is the year's busiest stretch. La Mercè, Barcelona's own five-day festival, opens Wednesday; a sustainable-food fair, a neighborhood festa and a fresh wave of art fairs fill the three weeks around it. Here's what's worth planning around before mid-October.

La Mercè 2026: five days of free festival (23–27 September)

Barcelona's patron-saint festival runs Wednesday to Sunday, with Thursday 24 September — the feast day of Mare de Déu de la Mercè — as the main event: castellers building human towers and the Cavalcada parade of giants fill Plaça de Sant Jaume, followed after dark by a correfoc fire-run down Passeig de Gràcia. The festival closes Sunday with a drone light show and the Piromusical fireworks display over the beach at Espigó del Gas. Nearly all of it, including BAM's concert program, is free.

BAM and Terra i Gust: the free soundtrack and food hall

BAM — Barcelona Acció Musical — runs the same five days as La Mercè's official concert program, with free shows across Parc del Fòrum, Moll de la Fusta and neighborhood squares citywide. A short walk away in Parc de la Ciutadella, the sustainable-food fair Terra i Gust (25–27 September) gathers 14 local restaurants for dishes from €5 and drinks from €2.50; entry to the fair itself is free.

This week's neighborhood festa: Festa Major dels Indians (19–27 September)

While the whole city looks toward La Mercè, Sant Andreu keeps its own tradition running: the Festa Major dels Indians fills the Congrés i els Indians neighborhood with a festival speech, traditional Esbart Maragall dances and a correfoc at Plaça del Rom Cremat, free and open to all through 27 September.
