Berlin's autumn calendar is stacking up fast: as of 14 September 2026 the Berlin ArtWalk live feed tracks 350+ events and 215+ galleries and museums, refreshed nightly. The next four weeks run from a photography retrospective closing this weekend, past two exhibitions that just opened, through the city's biggest race day, to landmarks lit up for the Festival of Lights.
Last chance — closes 20 September
Anton Corbijn's 'Corbijn, Anton' at Fotografiska Berlin — decades of music portraiture, from Depeche Mode and U2 to Tom Waits, Patti Smith and David Bowie — closes 20 September at 6 pm. General admission (€15, covers all current exhibitions) is your last chance before it comes down.
Two exhibitions just opened
Gropius Bau's 'Kreuzberg: Kunst und Migration seit 1960' had a free opening night on 9 September and runs 10 September 2026 to 17 January 2027 — a group show on the neighbourhood's overlooked art history of labour migration since the 1960s. General admission is €19.30, covering all of the building's current exhibitions.
At the Neue Nationalgalerie, 'Extreme Tension. Art between Politics and Society' keeps its postwar collection on view through 25 April 2027 — Beuys, Bacon, Richter, Riley and more — tickets from €14, free for under-18s and free after 4 pm on Thursdays.
Big city moments: marathon day and Festival of Lights
The BMW Berlin Marathon returns on Sunday 27 September — around 55,000 runners from more than 120 countries on the flat, record-friendly course through the city centre. It's free to watch from the roadside; check which streets close near you before you plan the day.
From 9–18 October, the Festival of Lights turns landmarks across the city — the Brandenburg Gate, Berlin Cathedral, Potsdamer Platz — into large-scale light installations, this year themed 'Colours of Love'. It's free for pedestrians to walk the routes each evening from 7 to 11 pm.
